As promised:
The Heavy Equipment Shop in Livingston. Part of MTRail, this is a roundhouse that isn't round. Locomotives pull in to a garage bay on the left building and then are sent to other buildings on the right by use of the movable platform in the center. |
A common sight throughout the West. |
The back side of The Murray. |
Livingston theater with up to date shows. |
Comes recommended. Cash only, no cards. |
Livingston has a lot of cool, retro neon signs. I'd like to go back and take some night time pics. |
This sign is neon and it rotates! |
See, this is the other side. |
The sign for The Murray. |
It was hard to get this pic, but this is the inside of one of the rooms at The Murray, Greta's favorite. It had a cool retro, 50's theme, complete with retro stove, fridge and table set. |
Bedroom of the retro suite. I forgot to get pictures of the Peck suite, named for Sam Peckinpah, a movie director and frequent guest. I think he was the one that shot a hole in his ceiling with a 44. Supposedly, Arnold Schwarzenegger was hiding out in town post-celebrity crisis. I didn't see him. |
Mark's In and Out, an original drive in. They even have car hops on weekends! |
A grilled chicken sandwich, crispy tater tots and a chocolate shake. All OM approved foods from Mark's. |
Where the magic happens. Essential equipment includes two cameras at the ready, GPS lady to talk to, and cupholders. |
I had the longest conversation ever with this lady flagger while waiting for the pilot car. |
At the Continental Divide looking east back at Helena. |
My trusty steed at the CD. |
That's pretty high. |
Dinner in Seeley Lake. |
A pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw, cornbread and an Eddy Out Pale Ale. Mmmm, mmmm, good. (Major props if anyone can tell what my dining table is in this picture, without reading ahead.) |
Finally, I can get past a Forest Service gate without causing trouble! |
Too bad I could only stay two nights. |
Looking north east at the "Bob", or the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. Seeley Lake is barely visible in the left side of the photo. |
Not as easy as it looks. Watch your head and feel the burn in your quads. |
Double Arrow Lookout, pretty authentic restoration. |
The facilities. |
Sublime. |
An original Osborne Firefinder. Unfortunately, no base map to accurately plot a position, but I was ready to give a compass heading! |
The best I could get for a sunset picture. The clouds really harshed my mellow on my attempts at a cool sunset pic. |
Next installment, Missoula, Grant-Kohrs Ranch, Bozeman (again) and night two at the lookout. Hang in there dear readers, my eyelids are heavy and I'm crashing. I do have better WiFi here in Banff, so I hope to have more for you tomorrow morning. Good night!
