This morning's breakfast was perfect. Kind of like the Tavern in Cville, but a lot smaller. They have a T-shirt that says "890 square feet of reality surrounded by Boulder". That pretty much sums up Boulder. Lots of beautiful people, cool scenery and fun things to do, but I don't know that I could live here. Well, I sure couldn't afford it.
After breakfast, we ran a few errands before we split up and I went off to Denver for new shocks for the Rover. A missing bushing has cause rattling ever since I left VA. Of course my luck held out and when I got there they didn't have any in stock. (Yes I did call first) The guy at the warehouse said "Oh, yeah, the guy you talked to at the other store never checked". Awesome. So I'll be rattling my way to Canada.
After that debacle, we reconvened and grabbed sandwiches at Lolita's, a small Boulder grocery/deli. I had a turkey, brie and roasted red pepper sandwich on a sub roll that was to die for.
We ate our sandwiches while Dave took us on a staff ride of the Four Mile fire that happened last year. It was Colorado's most destructive fire in terms of damages with 169 homes lost. Polly, a friend of Dave's from Long Island, and I were amazed at the scope of the incident. Spot fires several ridges over is something that rarely happens. We saw some of the saves and some of the losses. One of the saves was the town of Gold Hill, a cool mining town on the top of a mountain west of Boulder. If you're ever out this way, check it out.
After the staff ride, we met back up with Sky and did dinner at the St. Julian, a swanky Boulder hotel. They had live music out on the terrace. I had a wedge salad that ranks up there with the best wedges I've ever had. The band, Mestizo, was awesome. Check them out www.mestizorocks.com.
It was sublimely relaxing so we've been chilling out back at Sky's place before heading off to bed. Tomorrow, there are plans for another cool breakfast spot, followed by a trip north to Cheyenne where I hear there is a Sierra Trading Post outlet. You gearhounds out there know how much trouble I may get in to! After that, I will head northward to Livingston to meet some driving school friends. I have a few pics to post up from today, but I'll save them until tomorrow, I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open. Good night all.
