I also had my digital SLR camera, but I didn't bring it with me on the W trek because I was trying to go light.

AWD version of our previous trips. |
Wool was and still is big business in Punta Arenas and southern Chile. |
Chilean cop car off to fight crime somewhere. |
It's nice to see the bull signs are anatomically correct. This one's for you JD! |
Ruta de Fin del Mundo, or Route to the End of the World. |
Wide load in front of us. Looked to be going to the gas/oil works. |
Big Lassie dog roaming one of the bus stops. |
Sheep. |
Fire Tower spotted! |
Huge lodge out in the middle of nowhere between Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales. |
Interesting architecture to the trash cans. |
Estancia trucks. |
Looking towards TDP park. |
LF contemplating the journey thus far. |
Coming in to Puerto Natales. |
As mentioned above, the SLR stayed packed in my bag and didn't emerge until much later in the trip down in Ushuaia.
Bahia Ensenada in Tierra Del Fuego park. |
Looked to be an osprey or some type of raptor. |
Virginia, our guide for the day. Here she is explaining the life of the Yamana or native people to this area. They lived without clothes, relying instead on mud and fire to protect them from the elements. I think I'll stick with Gore Tex. |
Pan de indio or Indian Bread. These mushrooms germinate on the growths of the trees and were eaten by the Yamana. We sampled it as well. Not much of a taste to it. |
Another raptor. |
This is a parasitic growth called Chinese Lantern that grows in some trees down there. Not harmful to the tree thankfully. |
The growths where Indian Bread grows. |
Very shallow soil so strong winds topple many trees. |
One of my most favorite pics of the trip! |
The end of the road. Literally. This is the end of Route 3 which pretty much is the end of the paved/improved road on the South American continent. Only 17 thousand kilometers back up to Alaska! |
Virginia had to leave so she got off with Agustin in to this Rover. "Haciendo nuestra camino sin mas rumbo que el destino" Martin Fierro. Loosely translated is "making our path without direction is the destination". Cool quote, especially for a Rover. |
More expo Rover. |
A drive-by spotting in Ushuaia. |
The Quark boat. |
The Zodiacs on the back of the Quark boat, Antarctica bound. |
Our boat. |
El Capitan, Oscar Sheward. |
The Carnival boat behind us. They were on a 48 day (!) cruise from New York the long way to San Francisco. |
That's the wrecked boat that they just left there. Let me go back and check for the full story. |
Flying the Argentina flag while in port. |
The airport on the other side of the hill. |
The Aero Club of Ushuaia. |
The fancy yacht Kate Upton went to Antarctica on for the Sports Illustrated shoot. |
Time to put up the Chilean flag. |
The disembarkation to Cape Horn was dicey so I left the SLR in the cabin. Wulaia Bay was much calmer so I brought it back out then.
The former Chilean Navy Radio Station, now purchased and being restored by Cruceros Australis to serve as a visitor and interpretative center. |
The expeditions crew planted these flags whenever we disembarked, Chilean flag on the left and Magellanic Region flag on the right. |
I don't know, I thought EF was photogenic, but JD strikes a pose. |
Mauricio, our guide extraordinaire. |
Thurston Howell again. |
Porpoises, I think. |
The next expedition was to Aguila Glacier.
Daddy, can I get a ride? |
Look! The Belizean mind meld. |
This is a Magellanic wood pecker. This sucker was huge, about two feet tall! |
The rest of the group walked off as I was fiddling with my camera settings, but luckily the wood pecker flew to a closer tree so I got a few more closer pics!
Smile, say "Whisky"! |
After the majority of the expedition group left, it was just us taking some final pics. Then we noticed Mauricio had wandered off to take some more pics of the glacier, for his research probably.
We looked back for Mauricio and found him halfway up this cliff face. We were thinking he was going to go full Yamana, but he didn't. |
There we go, finally got a smile! |
Enjoying our hot chocolate, with whisky if you prefer! |
Next up: Penguinos! with the DSLR.
