With 2015 being the international year, you have joined me in Iceland! The Land of Fire and Ice.
Currently I am in my bed over top of the front of the RV Ashley and I rented, listening to the winds buffet the truck here in Vik. But, I'm getting ahead of myself!
I'm a little slower and less verbose this go around (I'm sure some of you may appreciate that!) because I'm hunt and peck typing on my iPad. And technological difficulties are holding up the photos, but I'll try to get that fixed tomorrow.
So, some changes this go around. Because of the growing families, we limited ourselves to a three day trip. However, Ashley expressed interest in going so she and I decided to tack on four more days for an even week.
In true Green Family Adventure Team (hereafter GFAT) fashion we waited a little long to decide where to stay on the front end of the trip before we met up with the rest of the Team. Side note: T&M left on Friday night and are spending the first couple of days in the North and flying to Greenland for a day trip before meeting us in Reykjavik.
Ashley did a lot of research and checked a lot of places before one day saying, only half seriously, "what about renting an RV?" The more we thought about it, the better it sounded, so, sold! We were renting an RV off of AirBnB.
We got to Dulles Sunday around noon with no issues and made it through security relatively unscathed. It was a little after one in the afternoon, so after checking the gate area (hmm, there seem to be a lot of people at the gate early, I thought) we went off for some food. After a chicken sandwich at Smashburger, we started back towards the gate. Coming down an escalator before the gate area, I said "it sounds like they just said Justin Green over the intercom".
And then we saw that all of those people were gone! Yep, they were already on the plane. We were less than ten minutes from missing our flight! We sheepishly made our way to our seats, had to sit in different places because those on time people had moved our seats and buckled in for the flight.
Two and a quarter movies later and we were really in Iceland! More on that in tomorrow's installment. Stay tuned!
(The title is a reference to a closing time inside joke with Ashley and I. This time the difference between 2:40, what we thought was our departure time and 2:10, our actual departure time, was almost not funny at all.)
